All chess pieces are expertly carved and weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chessboard. King, Queens, Bishops, and Pawns have unique rings and thick green felts, which precisely envelop the base of each chessman for smooth movement on the chessboard. The knights are well-crafted and reflect the highest grade of knight carving skills that our Indian artisans have to offer. Craftsmanship: The carving and the design of the knight are quite spectacular, details around eyes, nostrils, teeth and, craftsmanship near the knight's flowing mane is exceptional. The design of the other pieces is also highly outstanding that allows the set to truly stand out. Superb size and weight proportioning from king to the pawn exhibits true intricate craftsmanship and eliminates the risk of a cracking problem. Uniformity of pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles and so all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. You can expect some variation where hand carving or cutting comes i.e. knights. All chess pieces have an elegant visual appeal that blends well for permanent display on a cocktail table or any contemporary home. Package Includes 34 Chessmen (2 extra queens included). Board: This beautiful Board is made of Anjan wood on the darker side and Maple wood on the lighter side. The underside of the Board is felted with green velvet. Dimensions of 19" Board: with square size of 1.9" x 1.9" (48.26 mm x 48.26 mm). The Board is 22 mm thick. Please note that this is a handmade item so the final weight of the board can vary by plus or minus (±) 10%. Anjan (Hardwickia binata) is commonly called Hardwickia and is a dark reddish-brown color with very dark streaks, an even texture, and close, interlocked grains. It has a high cutting resistance, hence requires careful handling while manufacturing. It is fairly dense and durable, and a good variety for making chess pieces. It takes polish very well. Moderate to high price, it is a good substitute for Rosewood.
