Russian Zagreb chess pieces set is one of the most popular chess sets in the '50s and '60s of the twentieth century that was used in the most important chess tournaments around the world, among others, in Candidates Tournament which took place in 1959, in three cities belonging to Yugoslavia - Bled, Belgrade and Zagreb. All chess pieces are Weighted by adding a stud of iron within the base. Felted Green All chess pieces are expertly carved and weighted for fantastic hand-feel. Chessmen Dimensions Height Base King 4.1" 1.75" Queen 3.5" 1.625" Bishop 3.1" 1.375" Knight 2.9" 1.375" Rook 2.5" 1.5" Pawn 2.25" 1.375" Weight: ~1100 grams Material: Dark Chess Pieces Sheesham Light Chess Pieces Boxwood Contains 32 Chess pieces This beautiful Board is made of Anjan wood on the darker side and Maple wood on the lighter side. The underside of the Board is felted with green velvet. Dimensions of 19" Board: with square size of 1.9" x 1.9" (48.26 mm x 48.26 mm). The Board is 22 mm thick. Please note that this is a handmade item so the final weight of the board can vary by plus or minus (±) 10%. Note: all the items are photographed up close and personal so that you can see their beautiful details. Some items may appear large than the real size, so please check the measurements carefully to avoid any confusion. Though, we work hard to photograph them as close to the real color, keep in mind that lightning, props, and background may cause a difference in the color. Colour will also vary from monitor to monitor. Anjan (Hardwickia binata) is commonly called Hardwickia and is a dark reddish-brown color with very dark streaks, an even texture, and close, interlocked grains. It has a high cutting resistance, hence requires careful handling while manufacturing. It is fairly dense and durable, and a good variety for making chess pieces. It takes polish very well. Moderate to high price, it is a good substitute for Rosewood.
